Task 2

Mise en Scene:

The Gollum seen in the The Hobbit was completely reconstructed having a full tissue simulation rig, muscle, bone and fat simulations as well as performance and motion capture and facial characteristics from Andy Circus. Seeing as eyes are what people focus on the most, that eye were especially detailed. Gollum was given skin defects, more eye darts and peach fuzz around the face and ears to increase the realistic look. The entire thing was filmed live with Gollum being placed in afterwards over Andy’s acting, this was done so that the actors could feed off of each other.

The properties of a montage:

The properties of a montage scene are time lapses, recalling memories as they tell the tale, this is can be done to set the scene for an upcoming battle or to inform the audience of a persons past. Most montage scenes give dramatic visual impact, Smaug taking Erebor or the zooming in of the Necromancer for example. In some montage scenes time lapses take place such as the scene in which Balin tells the company how Thorin received his name oaken shield and why he has more reason than most to hate Orcs. In this scene, when we go into the past, time seems slowed as if the recollection of the memory itself seems slowed. Another example is the scene Where Smaug take Erebor, everything seems to happen at once, helping to show the fact that they are being attacked a fire drake from the north.
